Karen Loewen has stepped down as President of Steinbach and Area Garden Club after 10 years of leadership in this capacity.  A packed house of members and guests were on hand at the last Club meeting to express their appreciation to Karen for her outstanding leadership during the last 10 years.  The Mayor of Steinbach, Chris Goertzen, opened Karen’s Appreciation Night by thanking Karen for the many partnerships that she had created and the contributions she has made to the quality of life in Steinbach.  The Member of the Legislature for the Steinbach Constituency, Kelvin Goertzen who was unable to be in attendance, sent a Thank You letter and a Certificate of Appreciation expressing his gratitude for the real difference that Karen had made to the lives of citizens in the South East Region.  The Garden Club, itself, highlighted the achievements within the Club that were made possible by Karen’s leadership during the last 10 years.  To commemorate this special occasion, the Garden Club’s youngest member, 13 year old Opal Hiebert presented Karen with “Karen’s Tree”, a tree that will be planted in KR Barkman Park in 2017 to honor Karen Loewen.  Later in the evening, Dennis Fast presented Karen with her first “Door Prize”, a dandelion wine gift basket to acknowledge her role as a passionate advocate for a healthy environment.  Karen is also a Master Gardener and the Past Co-Chair of the Manitoba Master Gardeners Association.
